Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is reportedly launching on Xbox Game Pass soon.

According to a new report from Insider Gaming, which has now been corroborated by Windows Central, the 2023 Call of Duty title will be the first of the currently released games in the first-person shooter series to arrive on the subscription service.

It's also understood that Microsoft intends to make a formal announcement soon, perhaps even this week and will seemingly tie in to the recent news of the Xbox Game Pass price surge.

The company confirmed that it will increase the subscription tiers for every membership, including Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core and PC Game Pass. It will also introduce a brand-new membership tier called 'Standard' that doesn’t include day one releases.

Back in May, Microsoft announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will arrive on Xbox Game Pass day one for all members when it launches later this year, which will make it the first new game in the series to be brought to the service.

Earlier this month, we also learned via a reliable leaker that more Activision titles could also be joining the subscription service, including Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which is apparently set to launch on the subscription service in August, as well as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. These games are seemingly set to debute "very soon" although Activision and Microsoft has yet to officially confirm.

Massive Entertainment has shared brand-new details about Star Wars Outlaws' planets and revealed just how big they actually are.

In a recent interview with IGN, creative director at Massive Entertainment Julian Gerighty, and game director Mathias Karlson offered new insight into the planetary designs of their upcoming open-world Star Wars game and were able to confirm how traversal works in the galaxy far, far away.

According to Gerighty, the first moon that you visit in the game, Toshara, will take "four or five minutes nonstop" to cross in completion on your speeder and compared the size of the game's maps to Assassin's Creed Odyssey's zones, but combined together.

"It was less about how big, but more about how long in terms of traversal with the speeder it would be,” Gerighty explained. "[Toshara takes] four or five minutes nonstop, which doesn't sound like a lot, but once you're committed it's a fairly large amount and you are always going to be distracted.

"Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which was one of the games that we were looking at while creating this, you have different zones on the map [...][Toshara is] two or three of those put together."

It was also said that every planet in Outlaws varies in scale, but that Toshara is roughly the same size as the jungle planet of Akiva, but slightly smaller than the iconic planet, Tatooine.

In the same interview, we also learned that the game will have a fog of war over every map and that every planet won't feature icons or markers on maps until the player explores.

Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release on August 30 for PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with pre-orders now available. While Outlaws will be a single-player game, players can also expect two narrative expansions to arrive post-launch, including one that has already been revealed as "a Day 1 exclusive mission", called Jabba’s Gambit.

Star Wars Outlaws will feature a fog of war that will cover the game's many maps.

Ahead of its launch next month, Massive Entertainment has revealed all-new details about what to expect from its open-world, action-adventure Star Wars game, including how traversal works and what maps will look like.

Speaking in a new interview with IGN, game director Mathias Karlson explained that when the players first touch down on a new planet, it's up to them to discover the sights for themselves. This means that the map won't be littered with map icons or information, something that is usually present in most Ubisoft titles, such as the publisher's Assassin's Creed games.

"Kay [the playable character] hasn't seen the galaxy, she doesn't know everything," Karlson said. "The first time you come to Toshara you'll have a map where you can see mountains over there and stuff, but discovery is what gives you more information."

Julian Gerighty, creative director at Massive Entertainment, added that this means that planets and their respective maps will have a fog of war and that through further exploring the player will slowly uncover more and more.

"You're going to have to take some risks," said Gerighty. "You're going to have to go to a cantina [...] and you can eavesdrop and pick up on some conversations that will lead you to another location that reveals a location within the open world that you have to get on your speeder to go and find. And there will be a fog of war that you'll be able to clear up and that's really where your curiosity will open things up even more."

Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 30, 2024, for PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are also now available. The game will be a single-player experience, but players can expect two additional expansions that will arrive post-launch, one of which is called Jabba’s Gambit - "a Day 1 exclusive mission" featuring the iconic crime lord.

Elden Ring is an enormous game and - in true FromSoftware fashion - has reams of dialogue, item descriptions, and environmental details for lore heads to obsess over. Surely it'd be wonderful if all that detail was immediately to hand in a comprehensive book, right?

That's where Grace Given: The Mythology of Elden Ring comes in, a 500-page lore book published by Tune & Fairweather, penned by popular Soulsborne lore YouTuber Geoff 'SmoughTown' Truscott, and featuring eye-popping works by artists like MenasLG, Chris Lewis Lee, Shimhaq and Elliott Wells.

The book's pre-order page is live now, and it'll help you get a better idea of just how premium a project it is. Top edge-gilded pages, flocked velvet slipcase, and hundreds of pages featuring in-depth lore detail and tons of gorgeously crafted artwork - it seems to be a fitting collector's item for the most dedicated Tarnished.

And then there's the price tag, which is as eye-watering as the fate of General Radahn. Expect to pay $279 / £215 for the base collector's edition (pre-orders of which are open until August 10, 2024). A nicer limited edition, bound in genuine leather and including a signed collectible art print, can be pre-ordered for $773 / £602. Lastly, there's also the Benefactor edition which includes all previous goodies and a page dedicated to the names of those who purchased it. This will run you $1,104 / £860. A pricey package all around, then.

It's an expensive piece of merch, to be sure, but it does look to be a very high-quality product. Fancy bells and whistles aside, I can personally vouch for creator SmoughTown's content for its informative and highly entertaining nature. Plus, the store page is already showing off plenty of high-quality artwork which leads me to believe that those who can afford it will undoubtedly have a real page-turner on their hands.

Civilization 7 has been officially revealed. At present, we don't have a whole lot to go on about the next installment in the strategy game series, though this is set to change in the coming weeks, as a gameplay reveal is planned for August. Thanks to a short teaser trailer, we now know roughly when the game is coming out, and what platforms it'll be available on.

While there's still plenty we don't know about Civilization 7 yet, the franchise's pedigree makes it one of the more exciting upcoming games to watch out for and certainly gives it a good chance at giving the games on our best PC strategy games list a run for their money.

Here's everything we know about Civilization 7 so far, including a look at the release year, the platforms it's coming to, and some info on when we're likely to see gameplay. As new details are released, this page will be updated.

Civilization 7 trailers

So far, we've only seen one trailer for Civilization 7. It's a short teaser that shows characters through different ages of history. It all culminates in the launch of a space shuttle before the release year is given. Not too much to go off of yet, but still, it's very nice to have the franchise back after a nine-year wait.

While we wait for more on Civilization 7, it's worth keeping an eye on the game's official YouTube channel. This is likely where new trailers will be posted, after which we'll be sure to update this section.

As teased at the end of the first Civilization 7 trailer, we'll be getting a full gameplay reveal in August 2024. We don't know exactly what will be shown, but according to the game's official website:

"Rule as one of many legendary leaders from throughout history. Establish your civilization, construct cities and architectural wonders to expand your territory, conquer or cooperate with rival civilizations in pursuit of prosperity, and explore the far reaches of the unknown world. Will you build an empire that stands the test of time?"

Seems like your standard Civ gameplay loop to us, but there will no doubt be a whole host of modern touches and upgrades to enjoy in this new entry. We'll likely get the specific gameplay reveal date sooner rather than later, so be sure to check back in for more.

A strange, horror-themed teaser for a project named 'Emio' has suddenly appeared across Nintendo's YouTube and social media channels.

Accompanied by the hashtag "#WhoIsEmio", the bizarre 15-second teaser is already creating speculation that the famously family-friendly company might just be developing (or at the very least publishing) a mature horror game.

The age-restricted teaser gives very little away and certainly shows no gameplay. A human figure wearing a paper bag over their head sporadically appears on screen, with several jump cuts highlighting various features like the bag, their coat, and hands. The Japanese text for 'Emio' - meaning to laugh or smile - is then shown at the end.

The Nintendo Switch splash screen at the beginning of the teaser shows that this is indeed a Switch-related project, and the ESRB 'Mature' rating indicates that it will in all likelihood be a game.

Nintendo is no stranger to inserting darker or mature themes in its games, but it famously strays from developing games that would require anything more than a 'Teen' (or PEGI 12) rating. In fact, there are only a handful of 'Mature' rated games Nintendo has published - including Bayonetta 3, Devil's Third on the Wii U, and GameCube cult classic Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Whether 'Emio' is a project developed internally at Nintendo - or just something the company is publishing - remains to be seen. That said, the game has a bespoke landing page over on Nintendo's Japanese website, lending weight to the idea that this could well be an internally developed project.

We'll be keeping a very close eye on the game as more details are revealed. A Nintendo-developed horror game is an extremely enticing prospect, especially given the company's often-tactful deployment of mature themes in otherwise family-friendly titles.

Microsoft has introduced sweeping changes to the tiers and pricing model of its Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

As of today (July 10), Xbox Game Pass subscription tiers have seen price increases across the board for new members. The monthly fee for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - the all-in-one tier that also packs in PC Game Pass, EA Play, and more - has risen from $16.99 / £12.99 to $19.99 / £14.99. If you're currently on recurring billing for your subscription, the price increases will take effect from September 12. Further details are available on the relevant Xbox support page.

Meanwhile, a 12-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Core (that's the standard Xbox Game Pass library with online play included) has shot up from $59.99 / £49.99 to $74.99 / £55.99. US players will feel particularly stung there, no doubt. Thankfully, it looks like Core's per-month price has remained the same. The breakdown of price increases by country - including further price increases to PC Game Pass - can be viewed in Microsoft's official documentation.

Additionally, Windows Central reports that Xbox Game Pass for Console has been phased out for new users (though existing subscribers aren't being affected). In its place, a new Xbox Game Pass 'Standard' tier is being introduced soon. This will have most of Game Pass's bells and whistles sans the inclusion of day-one titles. Microsoft says Xbox Game Pass Standard will arrive "in the coming months," and the US price has been revealed to be $14.99 (around £12.99) per month.

Xbox Game Pass Standard seems to be something of a halfway house between the Core and Ultimate subscription tiers. On the support page, Microsoft states that: "Some games available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one will not be immediately available with Xbox Game Pass Standard and may be added to the library at a future date."

The PlayStation Portal is reportedly the best-selling accessory in the US for 2024.

The latest from Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry advisor at Circana, via PlayStation Lifestyle, who reports that eight months after its release, the official remote player for the PlayStation 5 has continued to sell well in the US markets.

It's doing so well, in fact, that according to Circana, the PlayStation Portal was the best-selling accessory in dollar sales for both May and 2024 year-to-date.

The continued success of the PlayStation Portal follows earlier statements from Sony, which previously said that the sales for its handheld exceeded its own expectations.

Earlier this year, PlayStation’s VP of product management Hiromi Wakai told Gamefile that the PS Portal is a niche product meant for people with specific needs.

"From the beginning, PlayStation Portal was intended to be a product best suited for people with specific needs and those who want to play in a specific way, so the reactions after the announcement were very much within our expectations," Wakai said at the time.

Wakai added that the Portal’s popularity helping Sony in "shipping more units consistently", and that "We will continue to bring more units to the market."

The PlayStation Portal launched in November 2023 and was quick to sell out in both the United States and United Kingdom within two days. Although the console doesn't support cloud gaming, it is set at a more affordable price compared to other handheld devices on the current market.

In TechRadar Gaming's five-star review, Managing Editor Rob Dwiar called the device "a tremendous success" and a "brilliant evolution in Remote Play", and said it offers "a smooth and stable way to play your PlayStation 5 library in your hands..."

The latest Nintendo Switch Sports content update finally adds basketball to the game.

During the Nintendo Direct showcase last month, it was announced that the spiritual successor to Wii Sports would soon receive basketball as a brand-new game mode in a free content update. At the time, the company said it would arrive sometime this summer, but didn't offer a set release date alongside the reveal trailer.

However, Nintendo has now confirmed via a social media post that the free content update will arrive today in the US, July 9, while the UK will receive it on July 10.

With Basketball added to the game mode roster, players will be able to participate in 2v2 matches, local and online, using the Nintendo Switch Joy Con motion controls. In local play, they can also take on 'Solo Three-Point Challenge' where they can attempt to score as many baskets as they can within the time limit.

Up to five players can also compete in 'Five-Streak Battle' on the court, a more chaotic-looking challenge, with the goal to score the most hoops within the time-limit.

Nintendo Switch Sports first launched in April 2022 and already features seven game modes, including Badminton, Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Bowling, Chambara, and Golf.

In order to play online, Switch users will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership, but can still play without one in local play.

Even more announcements were made during the June Nintendo Direct showcase, including the reveal of Mario & Luigi: Brothership - the first new entry in the series in almost nine years, which will see the duo return in an all-new platforming adventure featuring turn-based combat on November 7.

We also got new news of a brand-new Legend of Zelda title, called The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which will see Princess Zelda as the playable protagonist on a quest to save Link and Hyrule. Echoes of the Wisdom is set to launch on Nintendo Switch on September 26.

2K Cloud Chamber is now "ramping up" development of BioShock 4 as it shares new job listings.

After almost five years since the Bioshock 4 was announced to be in the works, its developer has officially confirmed it is now properly gearing up and is looking for additional members to join the team at 2K Cloud Chamber.

As spotted by GamesRadar, last week the studio's senior cinematic designer Jeff Spoonhower shared a bunch of open roles on LinkedIn, while also teasing what's to come.

"The BioShock team at 2K Cloud Chamber is ramping up!" the post reads. "We have many positions open across a variety of disciplines including art, animation, engineering, design, narrative, and production."

Spoonhower added that the development team is "working on a really awesome project", although didn't offer any more details than that.

As of right now, BioShock 4 doesn't have an official name or release window, and we also don't know what the game is even about.

The project was announced back in 2019 but will not be made by series' original creator Irrational Games. 2K Cloud Chamber does have BioShock veterans on the team, however, and since we're deep in the life cycle of current gen consoles, the game is likely to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC.

Since every BioShock title has been in first-person, it's safe to assume the fourth installment will follow the series' tradition, too.

Irrational Games, which made BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite, was rebranded as Ghost Story Games in 2017, and is currently working on its first title, Judas.  BioShock's creator Ken Levine is helming the first-person shooter project and revealed the first official story trailer earlier this year.
