UK retailer GAME has denied reports that it will stop selling physical games in-store.

This initial report came from Gfinity Esports, who claimed that sources told the publication that the storefront will no longer carry gaming related stock and that gaming hardware and software will only be available on a pre-order basis.

However, according to GAME, these claims are totally false. "This reporting is categorically not true," a GAME spokesperson told press. "GAME continues to support the physical gaming market, offering a wide-range of physical games, hardware, software, accessories and digital gift cards, in stores and online."

This latest report comes soon after a series of significant changes that have recently been implemented at the retailer.

Earlier this month, it announced that it would be discontinuing its Xbox All Access offer. For context, as of June 26, GAME will no longer offer the all-inclusive Xbox All Access plan to new subscribers - a service that allows consumers to pay a monthly cost towards their Xbox console and includes 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

GAME also confirmed that it will be permanently shuttering its reward scheme and Elite membership tier next month meaning that, as of July 15, customers will no longer be able to earn reward points from purchases and will have until July 31 to spend their points before they're gone for good.

In addition to these changes - as well as a series of layoffs that moved staff to zero-hours contracts - the UK retailer halted all trade-ins in its stores to phase out its pre-owned stock.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C has been announced, and it's a dedicated PC version of the popular brand's previous budget effort: the 8BitDo Ultimate C.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C is compatible with PC and Android devices, and ships with a 2.4GHz dongle, allowing PC folks to play wirelessly on their machine. For Android users, the controller is Bluetooth-compatible, too. You can also hook it up via USB-C if you'd prefer a wired connection.

This new controller comes in four striking pastel-themed color options: Green, Mint, Peach, and Purple. They're all quite basic, but nonetheless more aesthetically pleasing than the usual black, white, and gray of even many of the best PC controllers.

What's most appealing about the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C - and perhaps unsurprising for those familiar with the brand - is its relatively low price. Much like the former Ultimate C, this new PC-specific model comes in at $29.99 (around £24.99 / AU$45 - though regional pricing has yet to be announced).

That's not bad considering the controller features drift-resistant Hall effect thumbsticks and triggers, and the addition of two remappable bumpers; things you usually find on more expensive Pro-adjacent gamepads. Furthermore, it looks like the controller has a turbo function like older models, with some refinements to its bumpers and d-pad.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C can be pre-ordered right now from 8BitDo's Amazon store page, and it's expected to ship on July 15 in the US. If you're looking for an affordable controller that nonetheless packs in excellent features and wireless connectivity, then the Ultimate 2C should be on your radar.

Nintendo has revealed the file size for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which launches on Nintendo Switch on September 26.

Spotted by Nintendo Life, the upcoming game, which debuted at the June 18 Nintendo Direct, is set to take up 6GB of your Switch's storage space. Or an estimated 6,144MB according to its official Nintendo store page

That's ever so slightly more than 2019's The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, which Echoes of Wisdom continues to use the aesthetic of. The remake clocked in at around 6,035MB, indicating the new game will be similar in size and scope.

Fun fact: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is larger than both combined at 16.7GB, though that's to be expected given the colossal size of its open world.

Both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite have 32GB of onboard storage, meaning that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom should take up roughly a fifth of that available space. If you're using the original hardware, we'd recommend investing in one of the best SD cards for Nintendo Switch to give you that extra peace of mind. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch OLED's storage is doubled to 64GB; plenty of room for a game as relatively small as this.

However, don't let Echoes of Wisdom's file size fool you; we're still expecting a decently meaty adventure here, especially with how the Echo system (which allows Zelda to make a clone of objects and enemies for placement in the overworld) factors into overall exploration. It's looking to be a very different style of Zelda game and we're excited to see what it brings to the table this September.

It's being reported that Sony is drastically scaling back its funding for PSVR 2 as well as first-party VR games for the headset.

The report comes from Android Central, where it's claimed that sources close to the outlet are suggesting that Sony is "making deep cuts" to VR game funding internally. Additionally, a second source told Android Central that just a couple of PSVR 2 games are in the works at Sony. What those games are, or if they'll ever even be released, remains to be seen.

Sony is releasing a PSVR 2 PC adapter this August, which will allow owners of the VR headset to hook it up to a PC for compatibility with SteamVR titles. It'll cost $59.99 / £49.99, and it's great that Sony is offering an option to expand PSVR 2 compatibility, but the announcement of the accessory did seem to cast a dark cloud over the headset's future.

When PSVR 2 launched early in 2023, it did get off to a promising start with a solid launch line-up including Horizon: Call of the Mountain, and eventual support for Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil 4's exceptional remake. The recent addition of PSVR 2 games to the PS Plus Premium catalog is also great for headset owners looking for new games without spending too much cash.

However, the PSVR 2's eye-watering price tag of $549.99 / £529.99 was never going to sit well with most consumers, especially given it was even more expensive than the PS5 console itself. It's far from the most expensive VR headset on the market, of course, but when even Meta Quest 3 undercuts it and is far more versatile thanks to its wireless, standalone nature, it makes Sony's headset a very tough sell even for PS5 owners.

It'll be a shame if the reports are true and Sony really is looking to cease active support for PSVR 2. The silver lining could be that a permanent price drop will be in its future - this could allow the brand to at least sell through the stock and give more PS5 owners the chance to try out what is a genuinely excellent headset.

Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition is official, giving a new generation of gamers a chance to experience one of Ubisoft's most fondly remembered titles with a modern and fresh upgrade.

While achievement and trophy lists for the remaster had leaked ahead of time, prompting official confirmation from Ubisoft on social media, it has since been officially revealed via Limited Run Games' LRG3 2024 presentation alongside a new trailer.

The remastered game is coming to all platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It'll be available to buy on June 25 digitally, with a physical release coming on July 12 via Limited Run Games.

Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition seems to be hitting all the notes of a typical remaster; support for up to 4K at 60fps, cross-save support across all platforms, achievements, a new speedrun mode, and extras such as galleries and videos.

Interestingly, the remaster isn't just content with that. Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition will also feature a brand new questline featuring unlockable cosmetics and will, according to the official website, tie into Beyond Good & Evil 2. That's surely an exciting tidbit for fans as it seemingly soft-confirms that the prequel is still in development, and could be receiving some much-needed news in the relatively near future.

Beyond Good & Evil originally launched in 2003 for the PS2, OG Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube, where it was critically praised for its open-ended exploration, in-depth worldbuilding, and a unique photography mechanic. While it wasn't the biggest commercial success, it remains a fondly-remembered title that has absolutely stood the test of time.

Since Microsoft shut down Arkane Studios, the renowned developer had to cancel upcoming downloadable content (DLC) for co-op looter shooter Redfall.

Now, Microsoft is finally offering refunds to players who purchased Redfall's Hero Pass, which was available either as a separate purchase or came included with the game's Bite Back Edition. The pass was originally planned to bring more playable heroes to the game alongside other additional content.

An X / Twitter post from Game Pass Tracker (via VGC). The post shows that players are receiving notifications from Xbox that they've been "identified as a Redfall player who purchased the Hero Pass as part of [the] premium Bite Back Edition or the premium Bite Back upgrade." The message then confirms that said players have had the value of the upgrade credited back to their Microsoft account.

The second screenshot shows the full refund processed via the Microsoft Store, totaling $26.99. Essentially, if you're eligible for the refund, keep an eye on your notifications over the next few days as Microsoft should be rolling out refunds at a steady clip.

Redfall is arguably one of the bigger tragedies of the current, unstable gaming landscape. A promising co-op shooter when it was announced, it was unfortunately plagued by something much worse than its vampire enemies: copious bugs, glitches, and visual oddities. Shortly after launch, its concurrent player count on Steam became virtually non-existent. This was despite reassurances from Bethesda publishing director Pete Hines that Redfall would eventually "be a good game."

Arkane Austin did manage to inject the game with a welcome update before the studio's closure. It added a fully offline, single-player option to Redfall among plenty of other quality-of-life changes.

Xbox has confirmed its attendance at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, and is bringing what it claims is its "biggest booth yet."

The official Xbox account over on X / Twitter posted about the publisher's return to Gamescom from August 21-25, along with a list of games both upcoming and available to play now. Xbox states that there's more to come, but the current list as posted by the official account is as follows:

  • Age of Mythology: Retold
  • Avowed
  • Ara: History Untold
  • Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
  • Diablo Immortal
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Fallout 76
  • Towerborne
  • World of Warcraft: The War Within
See more

No word yet as to which of the above games will be playable or strictly hands-off, but most are close enough to release and - in the case of Towerborne - had playable versions available at last year's Gamescom event. As such, it's easy to imagine most things here being playable.

Despite the impressive showing, we're not expecting to see anticipated upcoming games like Fable or Perfect Dark at this year's event. Neither have concrete release dates (outside of the former's vague '2025' as revealed in its latest trailer).

Xbox is to be the only one of the big three console manufacturers in attendance at this year's Gamescom. Sony has reportedly confirmed it will not be at the event for the sixth time in a row. Similarly, Nintendo confirmed earlier this year that it will be skipping Gamescom this year "after careful consideration."

Nintendo would have plenty to show off at Gamescom 2024 given the blowout Nintendo Direct of a few days ago, but we expect it's likely full-steam ahead on preparing its next console, tentatively being referred to as Nintendo Switch 2, before making itself known as big events like Gamescom again.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 just got a brand-new gameplay trailer ahead of the game's launch later this year.

First announced back in 2021, the upcoming third-person shooter hack-n-slash has been a long time coming, following its most recent delay.

But with only a couple of months left until the game's release, today (June 20), Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive were able to share an in-depth look into the next installment in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.

The six-minute gameplay trailer was narrated by creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick, and dived deep into Space Marine's story campaign, its multiplayer co-op modes, and its progression systems.

The game takes place one century after the events of the first game and will put players in the shoes of Ultramarines Lieutenant Demetrian Titus - a genetically enhanced super soldier - who has been demoted and forced to prove his loyalty.

We were treated to plenty of action-packed gameplay, and according to Hollis-Leick, the development team has used something called "swarm technology", which allows for hundreds of enemies on screen at the same time. We also got a look at the melee finisher, which, when executed correctly, will replenish the player's armor and keep them in the fight for longer.

There's also headquarters that acts as a hub that players can return to between missions. There, you'll be able to interact with personnel, select your next quest, and also tailor your loadout.

Alongside the campaign, players can jump into Operations, a PvE mode focused on replayability and co-operation.

In this mode, you can use Armoury Data and experience earned on the battlefield to upgrade each class with up to 25 perks to shape your play style. Armoury Data will also let you level up your weapons with each new mission to unlock more powerful variants and unique cosmetics.

There's also a PvP 6v6 mode called Eternal War, with three match types to choose from, including Deathmatch, Sieze Ground, and Capture and Control.

In both Operations and Eternal War, you can choose six playable classes - Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy - each with their own unique loadout and weapons.

Saber Interactive has also confirmed that Space Marine 2 will receive new Operations missions, PvP maps, new enemies, and new weapons post launch in "regular free updates".

In addition, extra cosmetics and Chapter heraldry will be released as part of the Season Pass, with no microtransactions or in-game cash shop involving premium currency.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a third-person shooter and a sequel to the 2011 game and is expected to launch on September 9 for PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly decided to skip Gamescom 2024.

That's according to the German outlet Games Wirtschaft (via VGC) which reported that Sony told the publication that it has no plans to attend the games industry event this summer, which is to take place in Cologne, Germany.

The PlayStation company last attended Gamescom in 2019, which ultimately ended up being the last in-person event before the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent public lockdowns.

Although Sony won't be attending the upcoming event, it's quite possible it will put on another State of Play livestream later in the year or around the same time. The most recent State of Play was held in May, which featured plenty of exciting announcements, including the reveal of Team Asobi's Astro Bot for PlayStation 5

The game is a successor to Astro’s Playroom and will feature more than 50 planets to explore, as well as more than 150 PlayStation characters that the player must find and rescue.

With E3 now officially canceled for good, publishers have since moved to sharing news of games and hardware via their own annual showcases, or at week-long events like Summer Game Fest.

Sony isn't the only company skipping Gamescom 2024. Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed that it won't be attending the event "after careful consideration".

"Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not," a Nintendo representative said at the time.

"After careful consideration from all perspectives, we’ve made the decision not to be present at Gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year."

Gamescom Opening Night Live will begin on August 20, while the main show is set to run from August 21-25.

Amazon Luna just added a bunch of new GOG games to its service as it launches in three more countries.

Amazon has announced that it is continuing to expand the availability of its cloud gaming platform by officially launching Luna in Austria, the Netherlands, and Poland, allowing users in these countries to experience a wide selection of available games.

What's more, Amazon Luna has teamed up with GOG Game Store to offer more than 40 titles that can be played via the cloud, including the massively popular Baldur's Gate 3, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, and Cuphead.

Luna+ subscribers and Amazon Prime members can now purchase and play select games from the GOG store on any Luna-compatible device including Fire TV, Fire Tablets, select Samsung and LG smart TVs, iOS and Android mobile devices, and any desktop devices, like PC, MacBook, and Chromebook.

"Luna will continue expanding its selection of games from the GOG game store, bringing customers many more titles to choose from in the coming months," Amazon said in its latest blog post.

In addition, Luna+ subscribers and Prime members can also play games from the GOG game store they already own by linking their existing GOG account on Luna, or set up a free GOG account.

Users only need to go to Settings, click the Account Linking tab, and select Link Account or Create Account. When both accounts are linked, the compatible games will show up in the Luna library, ready to play.

Starting now until July 11, customers can also enjoy discounts of up to 85% off select games from the GOG game store with the latest GOG Summer Sale, featuring discounted games like Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Metro: 2033 Redux, and more.

"We are excited to team up with Amazon Luna to give customers more choice and flexibility in how they play," said Maciej Gołębiewski, managing director of GOG.

"We trust Amazon to maintain GOG’s high standard for player experience, no matter where they play. This is a great opportunity to get our platform in front of a new audience of gamers on Fire TV and Fire tablets. This is just the beginning, and we will be adding more titles on an ongoing basis."

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could be making its way to last-gen consoles sooner rather than later.

As reported by VGC, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has officially been rated in Brazil for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, suggesting that an official release date announcement could come from Respawn Entertainment soon.

We learned from EA last year that the Star Wars action-adventure game would eventually make its way to PS4 and Xbox One thanks to "community demand".

"Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is pure blockbuster entertainment, rooted in a timeless, culture-defining IP," CEO Andrew Wilson during the publisher's Q1 2024 earnings call at the time.

"Our team at Respawn proudly launched this title to critical acclaim and commercial success. Millions of players have already engaged with the game, making this one of the biggest events in the Star Wars galaxy this year."

"Thanks to the strength of this legendary franchise and community demand, our development team has committed to bringing this Jedi experience to PS4 and Xbox One. Over the coming year, we will harness the community’s passion and capitalize on key Star Wars franchise moments to drive continued engagement for this incredible game."

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor first launched on PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S, and PC in April 2023.

Before leaving Respawn and starting his own AAA studio, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor's director Stig Asmussen hinted at plans for a third game that would complete the trilogy.

A few months later, we learned that Respawn was looking to hire for a brand-new game, with job listings suggesting it was for the third Star Wars Jedi game.

Elsewhere, fans can look forward to Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws, which is set to launch on August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
